Senators and committee chairs were encouraged to be moreinvolved at Tuesday’s Student Senate meeting.
Director Arlene Manthey thanked those who attended the CrainLeadership Conference this past weekend, but made it a point to sayshe wished she could have seen more students in attendance. Shealso emphasized the Senate’s involvement with Homecoming andasked the senators to spread the word on the available scholarshipand residual applications.
Aatique Shaikh, Student Senate’s diversity chair,said he wished the senators would take an active interest in allstudent programs.
“Step out of your comfort zone and try a new event,”he said.
Student Body Vice President Liz Healy encouraged senators toattend the upcoming Raggio Lecture, featuring Southwest AirlinesChairman Herb Kelleher and President Colleen Barrett. Healy alsoencouraged senators to contact their affiliate organizations.
Sarah McKinnon, scholarship chair, encouraged senators tocontact their affiliate organizations and communicate aboutavailable scholarships.
The finance committee brought one item of new business to themeeting. The committee agreed to fund $150 to the SMU Rugby clubfor new rugby balls. The balls were needed for the club’sgames against the University of Texas and Oklahoma University thisweekend. The money will be spent to buy the $70 balls and have themshipped, next day, for the club’s use.
Senators also asked questions regarding legislation to fund $249for 1,000 brochures, detailing available avenues of funding forstudent organizations. They will vote on the legislation duringnext week’s meeting.
