SMU Short Takes

Hydrogeologist to speak at SMU

Charles Kreitler of LBG-Guyton Associates will speak about water sustainability, particularly in Texas. The lecture is at 4:30 p.m.on Wednesday in room 131 of the new Dedman Life Sciences building. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Kreitler is a hydrogeologist with experience in both consulting and academics. He conducted ground-water investigations in Texas and the southwestern United States for more than 25 years.

Engineering Career Week continues

The Career Center and SMU School of Engineering will host a workshop on technical resume writing Tuesday, as part of their career week activities in the Career Center.

Beta Chili Cookoff returns for sixth year

Beta Theta Pi is hosting its Sixth Annual Great Beta Chili Cookoff at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Green Elephant Bar and Grill. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Dallas SPCA.

Sign-up tables will be outside of Hughes-Trigg throughout the week from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Individual tickets cost $8 if bought in advance, and the money will go to the SPCA. Tickets are $10 at the door.

Team entries cost $100 and teams may have up to five members. Team members will receive free beverages if over 21.

Tickets may be charged to Pony Express, but space is limited for the event. New York blues man David Coen, the G-man Band, Lazy Jackson and Dead Thing will perform at the all day event. Trophies and cash prizes will also be awarded.
