The SMU volleyball team defeated the Texas Tech Red Raiders in Lubbock on Saturday. With the victories in the Red Raider Round Up tournament, the women are still undefeated with a record of 6-0.

Natalie Peters was named tournament MVP after racking up 21 kills and hitting at the .364 mark against Texas Tech. Junior setter Stefanie Kons and senior outside hitter Caitlin Rainbird were both rewarded for their fantastic play by being selected to the All-Tournament team. Kons piled on 50 assists throughout the night giving her 259 for the season.

SMU led for the vast majority of the first game and won by a score of 30-26. Tech mounted a threat toward the end of the game, but the Mustangs were able to ride Kons’ 12 assists and Candice Davis’ 13 digs for the victory.

The Red Raiders snatched the second game away from SMU with a commanding score of 30-22. The final two games of the set were close, but SMU fended of the constant Tech threats with scores of 32-30 in the third game and 30-26 in the final game.

The victory keeps the Mustangs on track for a great season. The volleyball team goes on the road Wednesday when it faces Stephen F. Austin in Nacogdoches at 7 p.m.
