Power was restored to the Commons at 9:04 p.m.
“Now I can finally charge my phone,” said Isaac Oti, SMU second year.
The Southeast Area faced a power outage starting at 7:29 p.m. on Wednesday evening due to Oncor Electric. A technician came to service the units at around 8:30 p.m. and reported that power should be restored by 10 to 10:30p.m., according to an email from Lauren Cove, the RCD of Armstrong Commons.
Affected areas include Armstrong, Ware, Kathy Crow, Loyd and Crum Commons as well as Mustang Parking Garage. Arnold’s Dining Center and the Dedman Life Center still have power.
In the Commons, the outside card readers are not operating, and some dorms have RA’s stationed at the front entrance. The individual rooms, however, still have card access. Few lights throughout the building are still on as well as lights in the staircases. Water sources are also affected as some water fountains are not operational. The air conditioning units in the areas are also not working, and the wireless connection was lost in the buildings at around 8:40 p.m.
“I was sitting in my room studying, and there was a large cracking sound and then I was plunged into pitch black,” said first year Natalie Gullo.
Students, however, took the opportunity to use the time off from studies for entertainment. Students in Armstrong Commons began to play Sardines.
“We were bored, so we started to play,” said first year Eric Lu. “It was fun.”
