SMU says, ‘Wear Red’

A new tradition has hit the Hilltop. Just announced Thursday in an email from SMU’s Office of the President, every Friday will now to be “Wear red Friday.”

Mustangs on campus and around the country are encouraged to wear the color red to support SMU, referred to as Dallas’ leading university in the email.

The motto: “Wear Red, Think Red! Wear Red Friday!” has already gained some buzz around campus.

“I think it’s a great idea, whether or not students actually wear red it at least encourages school pride,” senior Mackenzie Marr said. “And it’s an easy request to show you care about your school.”

It will be up to SMU students and alumni to make the tradition stick, but it’s a start in an effort to promote school spirit from SMU’s President R. Gerald Turner, Student Body President Alex Mace, Alumni Board Chair Bill Vanderstraaten, Staff Association President Abigail Smith and Faculty Senate President Steve Edwards.
