Should professors care about the emotions and motivations of their students? Jonathan Stolk, executive director of the Caruth Institute for Engineering Education, is trying to find out. Stolk will be showcasing his research in an upcoming lecture as part of the Download@Lyle breakfast series.
Stolk’s lecture, “Educational Systems Don’t Care About Students’ Motivations and Emotions, So Why Should Educators?” will take place at the Palmer Conference Center in Caruth Hall from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Wednesday, March 2.
The Download@Lyle series has given researchers from within the school and beyond the opportunity to share their studies since Feb. 2014. Executive Assistant to the Dean Misti Compton said the series was created as a way for faculty to share their research in a forum where everyone can understand it.
“Karen Prothro actually referenced something that Perkins School of Theology was doing, that they were having success with these breakfasts,” Compton said. “We kind of built from that.”
Compton says the breakfast series has been popular among both students and faculty. The series even led to the creation of a brown bag lecture series frequented by current students.
The lecture and breakfast buffet are free, but registration is required. More information can be found at the event page on the Lyle School of Engineering’s website.
