Letter to the Editor

Clarifying a point

I have found it necessary to clarify what I said in my letter to the editor published last Wednesday, Jan. 26.  The point of my letter was not to defend Bush’s agenda, but rather to dispute the notion that his agenda was hypocritical.

I was in no way supporting the death penalty, an attack on Iraq, or sanctions on Iraq, but rather trying to explain Bush’s philosophy on the issues in order to dispel the Editorial Board’s notion that he is a hypocrite.

I would like to respond to an accusation in “A word to the misinformed” published on Friday, Jan. 31 in which my argument was called hypocritical and “skewed” because it linked abortion and deaths of Iraqi children.  I want to point out that I was not the one to initially link those two things; the editors did that first when they said that Bush’s opposition to abortion and his plan to attack Iraq were in contrast.  I was just saying the two positions were not contradictory.
