Congratulations to the 14 Dallas ISD high school students who are finalists for the National Merit Scholarship program. The scholarship program gives out 7,4000 scholarships worth over $30 million, according to an article on DISD’s The Hub.
Roughly 1.5 million students take the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, while only around 15,000 students qualify to be finalists.
After qualifying, finalists must submit SAT scores, course grades, a personal essay, extracurricular and volunteer experience, and an endorsement from one of their high school administrators for review. Students find out who won a scholarship next month.
A student from Booker T. Washington High School for the Visual and Performing Arts is a finalist, five finalists are from Science and Engineering Magnet School at Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Center and eight attend the Talented and Gifted Magnet School at Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Center. For a complete list of names visit DISD’s website.
