Golf gets a new home

SMU agreed to construct a $4 million golf practice facility on the Dallas Athletic Club property. The facility will provide a clubhouse, a trophy room, and many more amenities for both of the men and women. The facility upgrade is part of SMU Athletic Director Steve Orsini’s broad vision to have SMU ranked in the top 25 in every sport. The SMU golf teams were in dire need of better facilities and a home course. This new addition may be exactly what these golf teams need to make the jump to the next level.

Athletics adds staff

The SMU athletic department hired two new staff members over the summer. Shawn McGee joins the SMU staff as associate A.D. for sales. McGee has over 10 years of experience with MLS soccer team FC Dallas and will be responsible for increasing ticket sales through print and multimedia advertising. SMU also hired Andrea Chaknis as athletic public relations assistant. Chaknis will oversee volleyball, swimming, tennis and rowing.
