Students are briefed on alcohol education by the SMU Police Department which works closely with the orientation and transitions office. Responsible for planning first-year student orientation programming each summer, the orientation and transition office is aware of the annual alcohol violations each August.
“SMU PD participates in AARO, which is our first-year student orientation,” said Lindsey Koch, director of student transitions and orientation. “During one of the presentations, they discuss Texas law and how it relates to alcohol.”
Over ten of this year’s drinking incidents have been recorded in residential commons such as Loyd, Ware and Crum Commons, according to the SMU Police website. Not all incidents ended in arrests.
