Fall break: the few heaven-sent days that keep us all from going completely insane in the midst of taking midterms, finishing projects and fighting to stay awake during lectures.
For some students, the break presents an opportunity for splurging on trips to their favorite destinations both near and far, but for others, fall break plans aren’t always so glittery. If you need help getting off your couch and maybe save a few bucks in the process, here are the top five activities you can do in Dallas this break.
1. The State Fair
Quite possibly the most obvious fall-like activity to do this weekend is to visit the Texas State Fair. The massive pop-up “mini city” attracts thousands of visitors from all over the U.S. and offers excitingly unique food options. General admission into the fair is set at $16 online, plus additional charges for tickets to indulge in the various attractions. For more information on the state fair, check out their website.

2. Autumn at the Arboretum
Take a more scenic route and visit the Dallas Arboretum. This imaginative garden houses over 90,000 pumpkins in dazzling spectacles and even features a village made entirely out of pumpkins. Admission ranges from $10-15, but if you corral a couple of friends, you may be eligible for prices as low as $9 each. Check out the Dallas Arboretum website for more details.
3. Six-Flags Fright Fest
Thrilling rides and chilling monsters await your arrival at Six-Flags this weekend. whether you get goose bumps from the gut-dropping drops on the numerous rollercoasters or from the side-smirking clown that is following you from a distance, Fright Fest is nothing less than exhilarating. Take advantage of free admission to Fright Fest with the purchase of a 2017 season pass from the Six-Flags website.
4. Haunted House
Ghouls and goblins more your speed? Test your bravery and nerve at the Cutting Edge haunted house. With a reputation of being one of the scariest haunted houses in America, it’s safe to say this activity isn’t for the faint of heart. If you’re up for the challenge, visit Cutting Edge for the spooky details.
5. Get Started On That Costume
Nothing is worse than rummaging through your closet trying to create a last minute costume before a Halloween event. Let your despicable creativity fly and make this year’s costume one for the books. Here is a Pinterest board link to a few costume ideas to jumpstart your inner artist.
If all else fails, grab your pillow, blanket and a large bag of popcorn for another afternoon of binge watching and napping those stressful school days away.
