On Oct. 3, this semester’s Brown Bag Dance Series, a compilation of student-choreographed pieces, are showcased for the local community. Brown Bag shows continue until Oct. 7. and last around 45 minutes. Shows are at 12 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday.
The show is staged in Hope lobby of Owen Arts Center, illuminated by the windows that look out onto Bishop Boulevard and aired to the footsteps of surrounding pedestrians.
“Brown Bag is an chance for students to get their choreography out,” said second-year Takia Hopson, a dancer in the show.
Pieces are selected following two elimination rounds. “We have auditions at the beginning of the year. Then choreographers choose the dancers they want, and then we rehearse for three weeks. Then there is an adjudication day that decides if the piece will be in the show or not,” Hopson said.
Eleven pieces made the cut and were featured in this semester’s series.
