Rain, rain go away, Mane Event is here today.
Despite a forecast of bad weather, Mane Event will startpromptly at 4 p.m. Friday at Moody Coliseum.
Mane Event is an annual event for the SMU community.Participants can take advantage of free concerts, food, and games.This year’s headliner is Cross Canadian Ragweed.
“Mane Event is an end of the year party that brings thecampus together to relax and have fun before finals while enjoyingconcerts, food, games, and more,” said Courtney Reilly, vicepresident of programming for Student Foundation.
This year’s theme is “Hawaiian Style.”
The Jordan Mycoskie Band, a student country rock band, willstart at 5 p.m. Student rapper Voc Atkins will perform at 6 p.m.Cross Canadian Ragweed takes the stage at 7 p.m.
Free food will be available from 5-7 p.m. The food is providedby off campus vendors including Celebrity Café & Bakery,Papa John’s, Freebirds, Roly Poly, Stromboli’s, PeiWei, Hooters, Pluckers and Café Nostra.
Free games, provided by Texas Sumo, will run from 4-7 p.m.Students can enjoy such activities as a rock climbing wall,one-on-one flag pull, medieval joust, Dallas Cowboys bungee run, a60-foot obstacle run, a mechanical bull, slam ball and the Iron Manchallenge.
Students can also shop at Mane Event. Vendors include SMUBookstore, Arbonne, Melody Doty, N-Style Jewelry, Paperie &Co., Donna Potter, Mollie Carroll, and Brittany Stovall.
New this year is a contest between participating studentorganizations. Twenty student organizations are competing for thebest Hawaiian style table. The prize is $400.
Mane Event is hosted by two student organizations.
“Mane Event is a joint venture between Student Foundationand Program Council. It gets appropriated money in budgets fromStudent Senate,” Reilly said.
Attendance was about 2,000 people last year. Those putting onthe event are hoping for it to be even bigger this year.
“Mane Event is growing and will be a huge, blow-out partythis year,” said Megan Kinsey, campus events chair forStudent Foundation.
Mane Event is in place to unite SMU. Kinsey says that the SMUcommunity should take advantage of the event.
“Students should come out today because it’s freeand there is a big name band this year,” Kinsey said.
