Hundreds of students lined up for an assortment of food at McElvaney’s Annual International Food Festival. This is the third year McElvaney Commons and SMU’s language department have teamed up to host the event. Over 300 hundred students registered to attend. The entire student body is invited – free of charge – to try international food and learn about other cultures.

“The purpose is to promote other cultures and get students interested in learning other languages,” McElvaney Commons Faculty in Residence Mira Detcheva said.

There was a variety of cuisines. Native foods from Russia, Germany, China, France, Italy, and Cuba were all represented at the event, and the proportions weren’t scarce. The numerous tables that lined the South Quad Lawn offered everything from fresh fruit to Cuban pastries and everything in between.

“I was extremely impressed by the diversity,” sophomore Kayleigh Dilworth said. “The French section full of cheeses was my favorite.”
