SMU students scoped out potential new homes at the annual Student Housing Fair March 22. Dallas apartment managers from six new complexes set up displays as SMU students hunted for their potential future homes.
Each showcased the perks that come along with their apartments. The newest complex is Arrive on University. Representative Roxane Deanne said they are offering special delivery java at the residents’ whim.
“We know the residents’ favorite coffee drink. All they have to do is call and it will be delivered to their door in minutes,” Deanne said.
Community director for VUE Fitzhugh apartments, Danni Spencer, revealed that their residents have access to a pool and fitness zone, with the additional perk of a close commute to campus.
“We have a luxury pool and fitness zone,” Spencer said. “We are only a short, six minute drive from campus.”
The housing fair was especially helpful for students like Victoria Plott, who have not arranged off-campus housing yet.
“I’m not sure where I am going to live,” Plott said. “I want to learn about all my options for when the time comes.”
Not only was the event helpful for apartment locaters, it was helpful for anyone who knew a friend in need of one. Some companies such as Sherman Residential offered special bonuses to the people who helped make the lease signing possible.
“If you refer us to a friend who signs a lease with us you will get $500,” said Meagan Roberts, Sherman Residential account manager.
Whether or not attendees of the event found their future homes, event interim executive director, Candace Barnhill, thinks it was a good chance for students to see what is out there.
“It is a good opportunity for apartment locators to meet with apartment managers. Anyone can come,” Barnhill said.
