Broadway. It’s flashy, it’s classy, it’s snazzy and it’s right here at SMU. Seven acts will compete for the Sing-Song title at 8 p.m. in McFarland Auditorium. Fifteen consecutive Sing-Songs have made it an event many look forward to each spring.
Flee Carr, a junior marketing major, plays Rizzo from “Grease” in her Sing-Song debut. “It’s an important SMU tradition that I didn’t want to miss out on,” she said.
Program Council hopes that Sing-Song will involve the entire SMU campus, Program Council Special Events chair Fidan Kasra said.
The Multicultural Greek Council is participating in the show for the first time. Nina Trujillo, a senior and co-director of the group, said that preparing for the show took a lot of hard work. “I knew it would be challenging, and I was right,” Trujillo said.
Another goal of Sing-Song is to promote a fun environment for competition. While some groups are just out to have fun, others come with something to prove. Delta Gamma and Sigma Phi Epsilon took first-place in last year’s event and they have high expectations for this year, sophomore business major Ryan Lamb said. While Lamb feels awkward dancing in the show, it doesn’t stop him from having fun participating in the show. “It’s all about experiencing as much as you can in college,” he said.
The acts will be judged on singing, dancing, props, entertainment value, creativity and theme incorporation.
