Finally, mini skirts and tiny tanks are gone! This spring season is all about looking feminine and fresh with light fabrics, bold prints and vibrant colors. Here are six items that fashionistas won’t be able to do without once the warm weather returns.
1. Ethnic inspiration
The key with this trend is to be subtle. A Moroccan inspired dress, an interesting exotic print or a beautiful tunic are great items to incorporate in your wardrobe. Look for items in turquoise or orange with hints of gold to make the strongest statement but don’t go for an all over safari look — you’ll end up looking like you’re wearing a trendy mumu.
2. Platforms
These aren’t the platforms we’ve seen in past years. These modified espadrilles are more delicate, sometimes in interesting prints (think stripes and flowers). This item is the ultimate compliment to a sweet summer dress and a pair of cropped pants.
3. Metallic sandals
Grecian-inspired sandals in silver, bronze and gold are huge for this spring and affordable if you look in the right place ($24 at urbn.com). With your favorite pair of jeans and a halter top (also big this spring), you’ll feel comfortable and stylish!
4. Full skirts
We’ve all admittedly spent hours shopping for the perfect pair of jeans to reduce our bottom half, but this season, it’s all about creating volume. Flirty, full skirts in interesting prints (landscapes and paisley) are a great style for the spring and are a fun, girly addition to any outfit.
5. Cropped jackets
Cropped jackets, especially blazers are in style again this season. This spring’s jacket hits at the waist and even has cropped arms. Look for unusual prints or soft pastels in this minimal cover up for chilly springtime nights.
6. Long, layered necklaces
You’ve already spotted them around campus and in stores: long layered necklaces are huge this year. Don’t hesitate to go clunky or vintage to find unique pieces. Layering necklaces of different sizes is a great look too, so play around with it and give this trend your own twist.
One thing to remember this spring is to dress for yourself. Wear what you want, and don’t be afraid to incorporate vintage items with new clothing to make your look uniquely you!
