Savor Dallas kicked off the weekend with its Arts District Stroll on Friday evening, with wine, beer and spirit tastings across the Dallas Arts District, including in the Dallas Museum of Arts-Atrium, the Meyerson Symphony Center, the Nasher Sculpture Center, and at the Winspear Opera House.
The Arts District Stroll is known to be one of the most popular of Savor Dallas’ events, giving people a chance to enjoy a variety of Dallas’ well-known art venues while doing what many love best, socializing, eating and drinking.
“The combination of the great art together with wine and food tastings, it doesn’t get much better,” said Savor Dallas first-timer, David Mackay.
Adding to the excitement of this Friday evening were the various food trucks selling their tasty treats to fellow Arts District Strollers.
“The food trucks were an excellent idea,” said Mackay. “After a few drinks I wanted something more to snack on.”
For the past eight years, Savor Dallas has provided food and wine lovers with the ultimate tasting event, featuring over 60 top chefs from Dallas-Fort Worth, and more than 400 premium wines, spirits and beers.
Created to promote Downtown Dallas, the Dallas Arts District, and other unique cultural and entertainment areas, Savor Dallas has grown to become the largest premium wine and food event in Texas. The Eighth Annual Savor Dallas event, March 30-31, 2012, consisted of eight smaller events spread over three days.
Another among event favorites was Wine, Women and Lunch, held Saturday morning at the Milestone Culinary Arts Center. While dining on a menu consisting of succulent braised short ribs with rosemary polenta and baked butterscotch pudding, attendants socialized with some of Texas’ greatest women chefs and winemakers.
“It isn’t every day you have the opportunity to mingle with the likes of Janice Provost and Susan Auler,” said Regina Cardenas, a local Dallas resident and devout lover of wine and gourmet foods.
With the number of satisfied participants increasing annually, word of Savor Dallas has spread far beyond the Texas Borders.
“I happen to be in town for work and was told not to miss out on the Arts District Stroll,” said Doug White, a businessman from Southern California who heard about Savor Dallas through friends.
“People are friendly and the tastings are delicious. Makes for a great social atmosphere,” said White.
With over 5,000 people in attendance at last year’s event, Savor Dallas hoped to increase attendance this year through its regional expansion, adding weekend events at the new Irving Convention Center at Las Colinas.
“We are excited to see Savor Dallas grow from its downtown Dallas base to include new events in Bishop Arts and Las Colinas” said Savor Dallas co-founder, Jim White, in a recent Savor Dallas press release.
