For nearly 100 years, The Daily Campus has served people like you. With any luck, we’ll be here for the next 100 years.
But times are changing, and we, too, must change with them.
The Board of Directors of Student Media Company voted yesterday to continue the suspension of Friday print editions of the paper for the Spring 2010 semester. While we had hoped that we would be able to bring Friday editions back to the newsstands next spring, the economy’s downturn still affects us. Declining advertising revenues have made producing a Friday print edition of The Daily Campus financially unviable.
In its place, The Daily Campus will be producing four special issues centered on Arts & Entertainment. These issues will be formatted similar to The Boulevard, which we debuted this fall. These issues will be distributed on a monthly basis.
In addition, The Daily Campus will be launching our redesigned Web site over Winter Break (to much acclaim, we hope). With this redesign, we will be able to bring you updated news throughout the week on the Internet, regardless of whether we have a printed edition in the newsstands that day. The news never sleeps, and we won’t let one measly recession get in the way of our job.
Please, don’t cry for us, SMU. We’ll be fine. And with any luck, our Friday print editions will return in Fall 2010.
In the meantime, you can find print editions of the paper in newsstands on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Updated news can be found online at smudailycampus.com.
We’d also like to extend our sincerest condolences to our devoted crossword and sudoku puzzlers. The loss of your Friday puzzle is great, but hopefully Facebook and Twitter can sustain you through those 8 a.m. classes.
