Dallas police are questioning three men in relation to the kidnapping and rape of a 20-year-old SMU student early Saturday morning.The student athlete was walking with friends on the 1800 block of North Garrett Avenue when three men in a SUV kidnapped her at gunpoint. According to reports by WFAA, the woman was leaving a party held by another SMU student athlete. As the SUV drove away, her friends tried to stop the vehicle. They then ran to a nearby convenience store and called police, the station reported. According to WFAA and The Dallas Morning News, the men took the woman into an empty parking lot and raped her in the vehicle. The men spoke Spanish during the attack. They also covered her eyes with duct tape and robbed her. The men then pushed her out of the vehicle without her clothes in the 1300 block of South Haskell Avenue, where she was eventually helped by a passerby.Police cancelled a press conference Tuesday afternoon and are not releasing any additional information. Senior Cpl. Kevin Janse, Dallas Police Department spokesman said they are acting on leads about the crime. Kent Best, executive director of news and communications, released a statement from the university:”The thoughts and prayers of the SMU community are with a student who was sexually assaulted off campus early Saturday morning. University officials are providing counseling and support to the victim and her friends. The SMU Police Department is cooperating with the Dallas Police Department in its investigation. We will continue to remind students of the need for crime awareness and to take appropriate safety precautions.”
