SMU is known nation-wide as a school full of beautiful women. Ithas often been referred to as the “Super ModelUniversity.” The men at SMU seem to be overlooked. However, that is changing since the article, “It’s RainingMen,” in the February issue of D Magazine.
SMU student, Stefano Secchi, was named one of the 21 mosteligible bachelors in Dallas after being nominated by a familyfriend. The story features 21 men ages 21 to 53 who reside in ornear Dallas. The men were chosen based on an interview process andrecommendations that included such things as charitable work totype of cars they drive.
Secchi, a 22-year-old sophomore economics major and Italianminor, is also an accomplished chef. He graduated from the CulinaryInstitute of America in New York. In addition to attending college,Secchi works as a chef four nights a week at the restaurantsFerrari’s and Il Grano Italian Bakery and Café, ownedby his parents.
After graduating from SMU, Secchi wants to have a show on theFood Network or trade stocks.
At SMU, Secchi is involved with the Kappa Alpha Order andco-hosts a radio show called “Is This Thing On?” whichairs on KPNI – SMU Radio.
Secchi said that being named one of the most eligible bachelorsis flattering but “really embarrassing.”
“I’m going to be making so much fun of him,”said Bobby Sanders, co-host of the radio show with Secchi.”Even if he is good looking and successful, he needs to getmade fun of.”
D Magazine asked Secchi’s mom what three words she woulduse to describe her son. She said that he was “dry,laid-back, and bloody lovely.” Secchi, however, describeshimself as “unorganized, laid-back, and outgoing.”
He does not have a girlfriend but said he looks for a girl whocan laugh at his jokes and be completely comfortable with hisfamily.
“Family is the most important thing,” he said.Secchi, whose mother is British and father is Italian, said thathanging out with his European relatives is one of his favoritethings, because “they are so different compared toAmericans.”
His mom loves that he was named one of the most eligiblebachelors, but his dad jokes with him about it. He said that sincehis dad is from Italy, he has a hard time understanding the idea ofthe most eligible bachelor.
Secchi said that Charlize Theron is his ideal woman because”she is beautiful.” Laughing, he added, “Yeah,it’s not because I just enjoy her work.”
Secchi said that he is most proud of living on his own in NewYork for two and a half years. “I’ve beenaround,” he said. “I’ve lived in New York and myparents are European which is something that most peopledon’t have.”
“He’s done a lot more than most folks have at41,” D Magazine stated.
Sanders agreed but added, “Although he’s a decoratedchef at a four-star Italian restaurant, I can make better instantmacaroni and cheese any day.”
