SMU students are set to receive credit adjustments toward charges for the remainder of this semester and going into the fall, according to an email sent by the University Bursar on April 16.
The statement says that “SMU will offer credit adjustments for housing, dining and parking expenses in light of this extraordinary situation.”
The email also stated that the credit range lies between 36 to 37.5% of the total semester’s charges and depends on each individual student’s specific “room and board plans, financial aid packages, dining options and other variables.”
Additionally, “all credit adjustments will be applied first to outstanding balances on student accounts, including registration for May, summer or fall terms if already registered. For graduating seniors with no outstanding balances on student accounts, any credit balance will be automatically refunded.”
Tuition for courses will not be reimbursed, as SMU says the courses maintain or have increased in rigor as a result of being online. General student fees will also not be refunded. All parking expenses will be calculated at the same rate regardless of whether students left cars on campus beyond March 23, but all cars should be removed from campus by May 18.
The Bursar’s office expects to post individual credit amounts by April 21, and expects all refunds to be processed by May 15.
The office stated that “any credit balance that remains after all unpaid charges are satisfied may be refunded based on federal, state and University guidelines.”
