Only one week left in this semester … and Ed Board is excited. The end of a school year gives everyone a chance to reflect on the year that was: New buildings sprung up around every corner, success and heartbreak on the athletic fields, passionate performances onstage, and many a late night working to report the news to the campus.
The end of the spring semester also signals lying out by Barr Pool, another Mr. and Ms. SMU competition in the books, not to mention another season of fashion (thanks again to Hill Fischer’s weekly column for keeping us up to date!), and Mane Event just around the corner.
Not to burst anyone’s bubble, but the end of the semester also means cramming for exams, writing those final papers and registering for another fall semester.
In this sense, the end of the semester marks a chance to look ahead and hope for new beginnings: a winning football season (we’re pulling for you, fellas!), a chance to meet new friends, a new place to live and another semester to further your education.
But for you seniors out there, Ed Board is sure that “Senioritis” has set in. Heck, all the ones if not tens of seniors that are actually still picking up The Daily Campus hopefully are enjoying their last few days on the Hilltop. We realize that you have probably already checked out and are focusing all your energy on the job search, or gearing up for yet another new experience in graduate school.
Ed Board would simply like to remind everyone that your time here has not been just a prerequisite for your professional career. Hopefully, college hasn’t been, as it is for so many, only an extension of adolescence, a place to further their social career, a. Ed Board would like to remind you to cherish your last few days of class. In our society, the university is the only place left where the free marketplace of ideas can still flourish. Especially for those of you who loathe going to class, try to participate in at least one more discussion. In a few years you might be yearning for someone to challenge your worldview.
