Martin Recognized By Athletic Forum

Sophomore running back DeMyron Martin was named as a candidate for the 2006 Doak Walker Award. Fifty players were named as candidates by their respective universities.

The semi-finalists will be announced on Nov. 15, and the finalists will be announced on Nov. 16. The winner will be announced at the college football awards on Dec. 7, and the winner will be presented on Feb. 15, at The Hilton Anatole, in Dallas.

The Doak Walker award began in 1989 and has awarded the nation’s best running back every season. The award is named after SMU’s three time all-american and Heisman Trophy winning running back Doak Walker.

Walker won the Heisman Award in 1948.

Martin was impressive in his freshman year rushing for 854 yards, and 25 touchdowns.
