The 93rd session of the SMU Student Senate met for the first time Tuesday in the Forum of the Hughes-Trigg Student Center.
The Senate did not vote on any legislation at Tuesday’s meeting. The group will attend an overnight training retreat this weekend at Camp Carter, a YMCA camp located in Ft. Worth.
Applications have closed for five open senate seats remaining since spring elections. According to Student Body Vice President, the Senate Membership Committee interviewed candidates and will make a recommendation to the Senate next week.
Applications are still being accepted for first-year senators. There are five open positions for first-year senators, and applicants can go to the Senate’s Web site, www.smu.edu/studentsenate/ opportunities to apply. The Senate is also accepting applications for members of its eight committees.
The application deadline for first year senators and committee members is Aug. 25. Elections for first year senators will be held Sept. 6-7 and committee members applicants will be interviewed Aug. 27 beginning at 5:30 p.m.
