Volleyball loses to roadrunners

The SMU volleyball team was unable to outplay the University of Texas-San Antonio. The Lady Mustangs lost 3-0 (30-21, 30-21, 30-21) to the Roadrunners last night at the Convocation Center in San Antonio.

SMU got off to a slow start in the first game and weren’t able to recover in the second game. Freshmen Kendra Kahanek and Adrienne Zielasko attempted to jumpstart the Mustangs in game two, but their efforts weren’t enough.

SMU took an early lead in the third game, but UTSA tied it up early and the Lady Mustangs were never able to recover.

Natalie Peters led the Mustangs by posting 10 kills throughout the match. Caitlin Rainbird and Rachel Giubilato were each able to reach double digits in digs and Stefanie Kons notched 22 assists, four kills and six digs.

Kahanek accounted for eight of the night’s kills. The numbers were dismal compared to the team’s record-breaking performance this past weekend in the SMU Radisson Hotel Invitational.

This is SMU’s first loss of the 2006 season, making their record 3-1. The Lady Mustangs return to Dallas to host the Radisson Hotel Mustang Classic this weekend.
