The SMU women’s basketball team knocked off the UTEP Miners 71-64 last night in El Paso.
The Mustangs were down by 12 midway through the first half before closing the deficit to four, 32-28, at the intermission.
Consecutive three-point baskets by Kendall Shead and Sharee Shepherd early in the second half gave SMU a lead it would not lose.
Janielle Dodds led the Mustangs in scoring with 20 points and six rebounds.
The win, combined with Tulsa’s loss to San Jose State, has SMU tied for second place in the WAC with a 5-3 record.
The Mustangs are now 14-4 overall, surpassing last season’s win total. SMU’s road trip continues with a visit to Boise State this Saturday at 3 p.m.
