The Indy Racing League and the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series make their way to Ft. Worth’s Texas Motor Speedway this weekend for the Sam’s Town 400 and the Bombardier Learjet 500.
In addition to the two premier events, a USRA Super Late Model series will race in the USRA Konica Minolta 100 as a prelude to the IRL race.
This is the 17th IndyCar Series event at TMS, and Tomas Scheckter is defending race winner.
This is also the 17th truck series race held at TMS, the most of any track. Mike Skinner will attempt to win his fourth consecutive NCTS pole award at TMS. Jack Sprague is the defending race winner.
Qualifying for the NCTS and IRL races is Thursday night. 38 drivers will attempt to make the 36-car field. Included in this group is SMU alumnus Robert Richardson, who is making his second career NCTS start at TMS during his first full season of truck competition.
Many race fans know that female racing star Danica Patrick will race in the Saturday’s event, but she’s not the only female driver at the track. The truck series also has two female drivers of its own, Kelly Sutton, driver of the No. 02 Chevrolet, and Erin Crocker, driver of the No. 98 Dodge. Sutton leads all female drivers in the truck series with 45 career starts. This will be Crocker’s first career start at TMS.
19 drivers from 11 different countries are slated to start in the IRL race.
