Hopkins on Mavericks Summer League Team
Former SMU standout Bryan Hopkins is on the Dallas Mavericks’ summer league team. The team’s first game was Saturday night at TCU’s Daniel Meyer Coliseum, where it defeated the Nigerian national team 89-85. The team continues play against other NBA summer teams in Las Vegas throughout the month of July.
Houston bowl has Conference USA tie-in
The NCAA has approved a new bowl game to be hosted in Houston. It replaces the former Houston Bowl, which had encountered financial difficulties and still had not finished paying out teams who had participated. Conference USA had a tie-in with the old bowl and has a similar deal with the new game. The announcement gives C-USA agreements with seven different bowl games and guarantees the league at least five berths in each of the next three seasons.
Rogers and Henderson named on pre-season list
Two Mustangs have been named pre-season honorable mention All-Americans by Street & Smith. SMU defensive end Justin Rogers and kick returner Jessie Henderson were named to the list last week. Rogers earned second-team All-Conference-USA honors a year ago and led C-USA in sacks with seven.
