Ed Board advises community not to miss Sing Song this Friday

Ed Board shows a strong appreciation for tradition.

An SMU tradition taking place tomorrow night is the 2005 “Sing Song” competition.

For those of you unfamiliar with the event, being new students or having lived under a rock for your last few years at SMU, it’s an annual song and dance competition.

Sing Song has been around for longer than any of us can remember.

The competition is supposed to consist of pairs of organizations (fraternities and sororities, generally) teaming up to take their place in the limelight.

In years past, it has been composed primarily of fraternities and sororities, however this year other groups are getting involved.

Virginia-Snider and the Fine Arts Community are going to be performing together, perhaps next season other residence halls will make an appearance.

Ed Board would really like to see Sing Song become an event with campus-wide representation and SMU-wide attendance.

The only problem with Sing Song this semester is the lack of fraternities. Several are on probation, and so will not be performing in this year’s event.

We know that drinking and shenanigans during Rush Week are a tradition even older than Sing Song, however there are consequences, and this is one of them.

Not having partners makes things awkward for the sororities, but Ed Board is confident that they’ll be able to pull it off without a hitch.

That being said, Sing Song should definitely be an event worth viewing.

Tickets are only $8 and can be purchased at the Mane Desk. Sing Song takes place at 7:30 Friday night in McFarlin Auditorium.

We hope that every student makes the effort to attend, but arrive early, as good seats fill up rapidly, and watching from the nosebleed section is no fun.
