The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders had their annual calendar signing party on Wednesday at Stanley Korshak in Uptown.

When I pulled up to the store, a full staff of valets greeted me and led me up through the Korshak signature gray and black awning. As I walked in the rotunda, there was a row of eight cheerleaders on either side of the entrance doors with pom-poms in their hands and smiles on their faces. I looked up and saw a large-scale banner with the Dallas Cowboys logo and one of the many beautiful cheerleaders.

The dress was casual chic to suit the ample food and drink. Men and women wearing Dallas Cowboys shirts and clean black aprons served the party delightful hors d’oeuvres. Great home-style foods were available to satisfy the many guests’ appetites.

All around the store were girls from each of the 16 months on the new 2006-2007 calendar. Next to each of the cheerleaders was a blown-up version of their month picture. I went around to several of the girls who, with a grin from ear to ear, happily signed their particular month and somehow found a way to tell everyone a tidbit about themselves. Their hands must have been very tired by the end of the evening.

The girls’ placement about the store cleverly allowed the guests to peruse Korshak’s many departments, including the new Shak addition. Tanned women in blue and white uniforms could be found around every corner. Korshak employees were also in arms reach, making themselves available to those who might have the sudden urge to buy some fantastic impulse purchase.

In the new Shak, Stanley Korshak’s sportswear department, the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders’ promotional video played on a loop. It showed the girls’ trip to Puerto Vallarta and segments of their exotic photo shoot. People were drinking and mingling both upstairs and downstairs, no doubt talking about the upcoming football season and future cheerleader performances.

Outside in the courtyard a completely different atmosphere was waiting for anyone who might venture into it. A live band and strategically arranged bars and buffets created a fun casual environment. Palamino and the Capital Grille were open for patron convenience. They are two of the great dining establishments located in the Crescent Courtyard adjacent to Stanley Korshak.

Overall, the party was a smashing success. Hundreds of people came to see the famous cheerleaders, and most left with personalized calendars signed by each of the great girls. What could go wrong with beautiful cheerleaders and fabulous shopping?

As I was leaving, a woman in a wonderful wrap dress and peek-a-boo wedges told me she liked my bag, and as always I responded, “I know, right?”
