October is the official marker of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but did you know that it is also LGBT History Month?
LGBT History Month celebrates the achievements of 31 lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender icons. A few of these icons include some familiar faces like Lady GaGa, Ricky Martin, Wanda Sykes, and Neil Patrick Harris.
Each day, the official LGBT History Month website features one icon and offers a video, biography, and their contributions made to the LGBT community.
“LGBT history is the only community whose history is not taught anywhere. It is no wonder that homophobia exists,” LGBT History Month website creator Malcolm Lazin says.
The website’s goal is to encourage students to educate themselves and spread the word about lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender history. October 5 features director and filmmaker, Lance Black.
