Student Body President Chip Hiemenz expressed disappointment inthe members of Student Senate during Tuesday afternoon’smeeting.
During his officer report at the last three Student Senatemeetings, the president asked senators to join a security HilltopWatch committee. According to Hiemenz, no senators have answeredhis call for representation.
“It’s very unfortunate that no representatives fromthis body” are concerned with campus safety, he said.
Director Arlene Manthey reported that President R. Gerald Turneris concerned with the amount of underage drinking occurring on TheBoulevard.
The Texas Alcohol and Beverage Commission made a surprise visitto The Boulevard during the last home game against Louisiana TechUniversity.
According to SMU Police Chief Michael Snellgrove,representatives from TABC identified 19 underage students drinkingalcohol and found several bartenders serving alcohol to studentsunderage.
The finance committee recommended funding more than $1,300 tothe LCC and Global Connections.
The LCC originally requested $2,182 for two computers, withmonitors. According to Taylor Russ, the finance committee chair,the committee decided to fund for just one computer tower and nomonitors since the existing monitors are still in workingcondition. The total recommended amount for the LCC for onecomputer tower was $946.
The committee also recommended $372.30 for Global Connections.The group will use the money to buy flags and flagpoles to be usedduring the Homecoming Parade.
Student Senate approved a majority of last week’sresiduals requests in block and discusses three complaints filed onthree separate residual recommendations. The membership committee tabled discussions on the charterapplication from the Northwest Bible Church.
Three new organizations, Mustang Mountaineers, Students for NewLearning and Mustang Actors Showcase Theatre, were given positiverecommendations by the committee.
