No rest for the weary

Following their win against cross-town rivals TCU Tuesday in Moody Coliseum, the Mustang volleyball team now looks to a weekend road trip for the University of Montana Classic.

SMU hopes to ride the momentum from Tuesday’s win into Billings, Mont., where the team will play three games in two days – something that has not brought great success so far this season. At both the Mean Green Volleyball Classic in August and the Alabama Invite earlier this month, the Mustangs dropped two of three matches over two days.

On the attack, the team has been led by sophomore outside hitter Dana Powell, who has 109 kills and 80 digs this year, second only to fellow sophomore Sidney Stewart’s total of 107.

Defensively, senior middle blocker Kendra Kahanek has compiled a team-high 27 blocks, and sophomore outside hitter Jessica Oliver ranks second with 21.

SMU will play the Arizona State Sun Devils (5-1) Friday at 11 a.m. before taking on the host Montana Grizzlies (3-4) that afternoon. The team will wrap up the weekend with a 4 p.m. Sunday match up against the University of North Dakota Fighting Sioux (5-2).
