Do it! You heard us. We know you don’t want to, but just do it.
All the things that your professors gave you the semester to accomplish are coming due now.
Ed Board’s advice: Do them, and do them now.
Don’t ask for an extension, don’t ignore it, just get it done. Sure, you have tons to do, two 10-page papers, a project and a presentation, but you can do it.
Ed Board has some tips.
Coffee and cola are your new best friends. Make sure you have plenty around.
Food is important too. Take some time now to go out and get supplies. Having to leave to go eat can be a major time sink.
Eliminate distractions. Unplug the phone in your room or apartment. Turn your cell phone off or set it to silent. And promise yourself you’ll stay away from thefacebook.com.
Be prepared. Get out all the books and other materials you need to complete what it is you’re working on.
Treat yourself. Once you get something finished, go out and have a celebration — a short celebration, but something.
Hopefully this will help you get a handle on end-of-the-year overload. These tips should also serve well when studying for finals.
There are some things that you should avoid.
Extensions. An extension may give you extra time to complete your work, but it also gives your professor an excuse to grade you harshly.
Getting discouraged. Of course you have a lot to do, but it is doable. Don’t get fed up and quit. Year-end projects are generally a major portion of your grade.
If you really feel that you can’t get something accomplished, talk to your professor. Usually they’ll have plenty of suggestions on how to make that eight page paper a 10-pager, without resorting to Courier New or margin manipulation.
For those of you that have been conscientiously doing your work throughout the semester, congratulations, that’s an incredible demonstration of willpower.
For the rest, this may be a learning experience. Perhaps next semester you won’t leave all your work for the last few days of class.
Yeah, right.
