Equestrian team starts off seasonThe SMU equestrian team starts off their season this weekend with a pair of competitions against Auburn and the University of Georgia.

Last season, SMU finished the year as the No.11 team, losing to No.6 Oklahoma State at the Varsity National Championships, finishing the season 5-11.

Saturday’s match, the first of the year for SMU, begins at 2 p.m. against Auburn.

Last year, SMU lost 7-3 to Auburn, falling 16 points short of the win.

Last year, SMU went 3-2 at home and 2-9 on the road.

In last season’s meeting between the Mustangs and Bulldogs, Georgia and SMU split two separate competitions, trying the series between the teams at 1-1 last season.

In last year’s first meeting with Georgia, SMU lost 8-4, but rebounded back later that month to win in Dallas, 7-5.

UGA, taking on TCU in their home opener, starts this season after finishing at the No.2 spot last year.

Sunday’s competition against Georgia will start at 11 a.m.

Rowing hosts OU at White RockIn their first race of the season, the SMU rowing team will host the University of Oklahoma at White Rock Lake beginning on Sunday.

Head coach Doug Wright will look to the talent of his incoming freshman class, all of whom were members of strong rowing programs prior to arriving on the Hilltop.

Cross Country eagerly awaits UNT Invite following rain cancellationThe SMU cross country team has to postpone the second race of the 2009-10 season when the Texas A&M Invitational was cancelled last week due to rain.

This weekend’s North Texas Invitational will be the team’s first meet since Sept. 5.The cross country team has one win under their belt after finishing in first place at the TCU Cross Country Season Opener.

Men’s tennis heads to three-day Midland InviteAfter wrapping up their first tournament of the season with four out of six players making it into the finals, the men’s tennis team prepares for yet another round of play in the Midland Invitational this weekend.

SMU’s Darren Walsh was crowned champion in the singles Flight B match, defeating his opponent 6-4, 6-7 and 1-0.

In last year’s Midland Invitational, the Mustangs took three redshirt freshmen, all of whom put up strong performances against national and international competition.The tournament is scheduled to run Friday through Sunday.
