Labor day weekend fun

Great activities at a great price

If you’re worried that you won’t have enough to fill up your Labor Day weekend, fear not.

From small art openings to huge exhibition openings, from Saturday afternoon tailgating to “Saturday Night in the City,” there are plenty of events happening both on-campus and off.

Denton-based magazine and art gallery “Art Prostitute” will hold a re-opening of “Salad Days,” featuring work by Tiffany Bozic and Jeremy Fish, on Friday afternoon from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m at ReelFX Creative Studios in Deep Ellum.

Both artists are heavily influenced by the graphic arts and fill their work with whimsical illustrations. For more information visit www.reelfx.com or www.artprostitute.com.

If you can handle more art, stop by the Pollock Gallery on Friday night for the opening reception for “Joan Mitchell: The 1946-1952 Sketchbook Drawings and Related Works.”

This exhibition of works from a single sketchbook of the famed New York School artist will be on view until Oct.15. The reception will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The Pollock Gallery is located in the Hughes-Trigg Student Center. For more information call 214-768-4439.

Saturday marks the opening day of the 2005 Mustang football season. The day will be filled with tailgating on the Boulevard and SMU’s game against Baylor. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.

Tickets are still available for the game, though there will be plenty of other events on campus all day. Visit www.smumustangs.com for more information.

Opening Sunday at the Dallas Museum of Art is “Dialogues: Duchamp, Cornell, Johns, Rauschenberg.” This exhibition looks at the connection between four of the most important 20th century artists and features over 40 works.
