Day of the Dead e-mail

I received an e-mail alerting me to an event on campus that would read the names of those fallen during the war in Iraq. From the sponsors and the quote on the advertisement it seems as if the ceremony has the dual purpose of honoring those that have fallen while criticizing what it was they have died fighting for.

Is it too much to ask that they simply honor the men and women who have been asked for and given the ultimate sacrifice without pushing an agenda?

In many, and I would imagine most, cases, those lost died while doing something they believed in. Which means these organizations sponsoring this event do the names of these heroic citizens and their families a disservice by using their names in a manner that contradicts the purpose of these soldiers’ sacrifice.

There are better ways to memorialize our soldiers. And there are better ways to support the termination of this war.

Sincerely,

Miles Lamont MBA ’08
