Last Thursday was the grand opening of the Intermix store in North Park Center. Kim Schlegel Whitman, Nancy Marcus Golden, Angie Barrett and Janie Turner hosted the casual-chic event. The party was focused around the fantastic clothes and Chuck Ramirez’s work.

Ramirez, a photographer from San Antonio, was made famous by his naughty hand bag pictures. Women send him their fabulous purses with everything that they might carry in them; he positions them just right, and shoots them as if they were drugged up supermodels. No one knows quite how he does it, but when it’s all said and done, the photographs look incredibly intimate and honest.

Ramirez’s work was placed all about the store, so we could enjoy it while appreciating the incredible clothing. After not visiting the store in over a month, I was surprised to see that nearly all the merchandise was new.

With a special appearance by Intermix’s owners, one got a personal feel, as if each store was one the brothers’ babies that must be nurtured and tended to. It is not often the people with several stores all over the country goes to visit each one. The men really care about every customer.

Intermix would rather have “20 loyal customers who love [us] rather than 100 who just think [Intermix] is just ok,” said Khajak.

Mixed up with disc jockey Kelly Taylor from the Twelve Inch Pimps, the atmosphere was perfect for mingling with Dallas’ finest, appreciating edgy art and, most of all, shopping with girlfriends.

For our convenience the store continued to operate during the event, so if we just had to buy that great handbag in the window or the fabulous dress that one of Intermix’s associates was wearing, we could. It is most definitely the year of the little black dress. Coco Chanel would be so proud, as were the Keledjian brothers.
