The SMU cross country team finished fourth at the NCAA Championships Monday in Terre Haute, Ind.
Sophomore Silje Fjortoft finished 40th, with a time of 20:51. Senior Rachel Forish was only five seconds behind.
Freshmen Claire Hardwick and Monika Korra came in third and fourth, respectively, on the team.
Senior Jessica Simmons finished 144th, with a time of 21:49.
The top 20 finish capped a successful season for the Mustangs, who won the Conference USA Championship Nov. 1 in Memphis, Tenn.
The Mustangs finished fourth in the Mid-South Regionals in Waco and received an at-large berth to the championships.
Washington University placed two runners in the top 10 and five in the top 30 on Monday and captured the team title. Pacific 10 Conference rival Oregon University finished second.
Texas Tech’s Sally Kipyego finished first for the third year in a row. Her team finished seventh overall.
