One thing that is especially familiar to newspaper editors is staying up until the wee hours of the morning. As such, we are extremely knowledgeable about means of staying awake.
Ed Board’s recommendation is coffee, and the most readily available source for this bitter ambrosia is right here in our building.
That’s right, the members of Ed Board are extraordinarily pleased with the addition of the Java City Cyber Café to the Hughes-Trigg student center.
“Why?” One may ask.
Three words: open until midnight.
The change of hours and relocation were great choices for Java City. The merchant’s old location, within The Market, made getting a quick cup between classes much more strenuous.
The advantage of extended hours is obvious. If a student is staying up late doing homework, then they can go to a coffee shop on campus and get a fresh cup, rather than relying on a soda machine or an off-campus retailer.
Also, if that student changes his or her mind and decides to get something else, such as a smoothie, he or she could get it right there. That’s right, Java City isn’t just about coffee.
Now, imagine yourself, tall mochacino in hand. Maybe you want to check your e-mail, or one of those online networking tools, like, you know, facebook.
One can do that at Java City as well. In fact, one can find computer access at Java City any time, day or night. Perhaps that’s why it’s the “Cyber Café”?
Want more options? Want free wireless internet?
Well, that’s available too. The student center is one of many places on campus with a wireless network.
All you need to connect is your SMU ID number and password. Well, that and a computer with a wireless card.
Later this year Java City will be adding huge flat-screen TV’s, so students will be able to watch the big game while tipping back an ice-cold… smoothie.
Well, we can’t have everything, but we can utilize what we have to the fullest.
So, come on over to the student center and check out the new Java City Cyber Café, you’ll be glad you did.
