Men’s tennis wraps up home schedule

Since suffering a 4-3 loss to the TCU Horned Frogs in early March, the men’s tennis team (13-9) has won six of eight matches heading into today’s home finale against UT-Arlington and Grambling State University.Last Friday, SMU fell to the No. 30 Oklahoma State Cowboys (9-5) by a score of 6-1.Sophomores Adham el-Effendi and Darren Walsh teamed up to maintain their perfect 11-0 record in the No. 2 doubles spot with an 8-2 win over their OSU counterparts.Freshman David Costa picked up the Mustangs’ only singles win of the match, defeating the Cowboys’ Mikhail Trukshanin (6-2, 6-1).In the top singles spot, junior Robin Fahgen came up just short against No. 1 Oleksandr Nedovyesov. After forcing a second-set tiebreaker, Fahgen, ranked No. 60, was unable to follow through, ultimately falling to Nedovyesov (6-2, 7-6).Next up for the team is a doubleheader matchup against the UT-Arlington Mavericks (9-9) and Grambling State Tigers (7-1). First serve against the Mavericks is set for 2 this afternoon before SMU hosts the Tigers at 6 p.m.Both games will be held at Turpin Tennis Stadium.
