Spielberg, Cruise and Pitt at forefront of summer films while two classic remakes provide laughs

Every summer, movies aim to make box-office hits and this summer, over 20 new movies do exactly that. Here are just a few:

Action

Mr. and Mrs. Smith (June 10) – Explains what happens when a couple is hired to assasinate each other. The movie features Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt and Adam Brody.

Saint Ralph (June 10) – This movie is about a 14-year-old who runs the Boston Marathon with the hope that his winning will bring his mother out of a coma; inspired by a true story.

Majr Dundee (June 10) – Sam Peckinpah’s 1965 Western will be released with extra footage; it tells the story of a prison warden who chases an Apache during the last days of the Civil War.

Batman Begins (June 15) – Tells Batman’s evolution. The movie features Christian Bale as Batman and includes Katie Holmes, Liam Neeson, Michael Caine, and Morgan Feeman.

War of the Worlds (June 29) – What happens when aliens attack the United States? Directed by Steven Spielberg the movies stars Tom Cruise, Dakota Fanning and Tim Robbins.

 

Thrillers

Kontroll (June 17) – Tells what happens when a serial killer invades the Budapest subway system.

George A. Romero’s Land of the Dead (June 24) – Dennis Hopper and John Leguizamo fight belligerent zombies.

Comedies

The Honeymooners (June 10) – An update on the television show, The Honeymooners, this cast features Cedric the Entertainer and Mike Epps as the leading men.

Bewitched (June 24) – An update on the 1960s television show, “Bewitched.” The cast includes Shirley MacLaine, Michael Caine, Will Ferrell and Nicole Kidman.

Romance

Saving Face (June 17) – A non-traditional family is faced with criticism from their traditional Chinese neighbors.

Heights (June 24) – A group of city-dwellers are given 24-hours to make life-altering decisions, starring Glenn Close, James Marsden and Isabella Rossellini.

Documentaries

March of the Penguins (June 24) – Follows the trek of penguins as they travel through Antarctica to a safer place to live.

Lipstick & Dynamite, Piss & Vinegar: The First Ladies of Wrestling (June) – Documents the famous ladies of the ring.

Tell Them Who You Are (June) – A tribute to cinematographer Haskell Wexler.
