The men’s soccer team will take on the University of Central Florida Knights at 7 p.m. at Westcott Field on Saturday. The No. 11 Mustangs are 5-2-2 overall and tied their only conference game against Tulsa.

The Knights have an overall record of 4-5-1 and like SMU, tied their only conference game against Memphis. Last year the Knights tied the heavily favored Mustangs in a 2-2 overtime battle.

Junior midfielder and forward Ryan Roushandel currently leads the Knights in goals with five and points with 10. He has been responsible for a couple of the Knights’ game-winning goals.

Another weapon on the Knights’ offensive attack is senior forward James Georgeff. The native Australian has scored three goals on the season while registering two assists. The 6-foot-2-inch forward poses match up problems for most teams, but has been contained by top defensive teams like St. Louis.

UCF goalkeeper Sean Johnson has started all 10 games for the Knights. Coming into Saturday’s game, he has a 2.05 goals against average while averaging 4.5 saves per game. Those numbers are well below the average of keepers SMU has faced this year, even when the strength of the schedule is taken into account.

Current SMU women’s soccer coach Brent Erwin coached the Knights for two years prior to accepting his current head-coaching job. Bryan Cunningham currently coaches the Knights and is in his first year as a head coach.

The Mustangs enter Saturday night’s action fresh off of a win against Missouri State. SMU dominated nearly every aspect of that game and looked strong even with many starters sitting on the bench.

Junior midfielder Bruno Guarda currently leads the Mustangs in points with 14. After Wednesday night’s game, he is currently tied with fellow junior midfielder Richard Oliva for the SMU goal lead with four.

Senior midfielder Ben Shuleva has currently been on a hot streak offensively, scoring three goals in his past two games. After not scoring any goals last season, Shuleva has put together a solid couple of games on the offensive side of the ball.

SMU goalkeeper Steve Sandbo is still questionable for Saturday night’s game after twisting his knee and ankle. Craig Hill filled in for Sandbo on Wednesday, saving the sole shot on goal.
