Swimmers make waves in Houston

The SMU women’s swim and dive team swept all three of its opponents this weekend as the Mustangs traveled to Houston to take on Rice, Oregon and Houston.

In their first head-to-head meet of the year, the Mustangs swept the Owls from Rice in all 14 events 178-83. Juniors Anja Carman and Katie Roberts took first and second, respectively, in the 1,000 yard freestyle. In the 200 yard freestyle, Jennifer Blackman took first with a time of 1:52.40 while teammate Celina Lemmen wasn’t far behind with a third place finish.

In butterfly, freshman Justine Clark took first place in the 200 yard competition at 2:04.41 and Federica Felloni placed fifth with a time of 2:18.01. Sophomore Petra Klosova dominated both the 50 yard freestyle and the 100 yard freestyle with Michelle Vlasakova and Angela San Juan Cisneros taking third and fourth in the 50 yard freestyle.

SMU got up early Saturday morning to take on No. 25 Oregon and the University of Houston in a tri-meet. The Mustangs took the lead early with a first place finish in the 200 yard medley relay. Petra Klosova, Tamara Sambrailo, Angela San Juan Cisneros and Leane Darling dominated the competition with a time of 1:45.39.

The SMU divers were also successful against Oregon and Houston. Senior Kristen Schild took third place in both the 3-meter and 1-meter diving events, while Mara Morhouse took fifth in both competitions. SMU diver Anastasia Cantonis competed in the 1-meter event and placed sixth.

The No. 8 SMU women’s swim and dive hits the water again Nov. 10 at North Texas.
