Women’s Swimming takes first in Classic

The SMU women’s swim and dive team hosted the 13th annual SMU Swim Classic. The Mustangs took first place with 327 points, beating out Florida State, the University of Wisconsin, University of Alabama, Virginia Tech and Louisiana State University for the top spot.

Junior Katie Roberts took third place in the 500 yd. freestyle with a time of 4:56.03 while junior Anja Carman took first place in the 200 yd. backstroke with a time of 1:59.33.

Sophomore Petra Klosova competed in the 400 yd. freestyle relay as well as taking third place in the 200 yd. IM with a time of 2:04.64. The relay team of Petra Klosova, Candace Blackman, Anglea San Juan Cisneros and Leane Darling took first, barely taking the victory from Florida State, with a time of 3:24.87.

Blackman placed second in the 100 yd. freestyle with a time of 51.13. She also participated in the 200 yd. freestyle relay with teammates Darling, San Juan Cisneros, and Roberts, who placed third with a time of 1:35.64.

SMU diver Kristen Schild competed in the three-meter event on Saturday. The senior placed third overall in the competition with 257.60 points.

The SMU women’s swim and dive team continue its season on Oct. 27 in Houston against Rice University.
