Cardinals shutout Tigers

The Cardinals and Tigers faced off in game 3 of the World Series in St. Louis Tuesday night.

It was a pitcher’s duel until the bottom of the fourth inning when Jim Edmonds opened the scoring with a 2 RBI double down the right field line.

And that was how the score remained until the bottom of the seventh when Albert Pujols hit a comebacker to Detroit pitcher Joel Zumaya with David Eckstein and Preston Wilson on base. Zumaya threw the ball away allowing Eckstein and Willson to score.

The Cardinals added another run in the bottom of the eighth on a passed ball with the bases loaded.

One run would have been enough for the Cardinal’s pitching staff. Chris Carpenter went eight innings giving up no runs and strking out six.

The Cardinals took game three, 5-0 to take a 2-1 lead in the series.
