Lilly Pulitzer, a women’s fashion boutique inside the NorthPark Center, opened its doors early on Sept. 30 for the Dallas community to “shop for a cause.”
“Shop for a Cause” was the first philanthropy event of the year for Delta Delta Delta SMU chapter. For every item sold, 10 percent of the proceeds went to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
Philanthropy is the desire to improve the material, social and spiritual welfare of humanity, especially through charitable activities. On Sunday, the members of Tri-Delta worked to display their dedication to community service.
The preparation behind the event included advertisements in The Daily Campus, signs and posters around Hughes-Trigg and promotions at the FIJI house. Even postcards were sent out to other Tri-Delta alumni. Also, Tri-Delta’s fundraiser chair Meredith Joe worked with the Lilly Pulitzer boutique in order to ensure a successful sales event.
Tri-Delta agreed that Family Weekend was the perfect date for the event. Both moms and daughters could come and support the cause by buying anything from a dress to a handbag. Men could also participate, because Lilly Pulitzer now offers a men’s collection online.
“The Lilly Pulitzer store is so generous,” Tri-Delta President Laura Ann Elpers said. “They have allowed us to hold our fundraiser here for two years and even provide hors d’oeuvres for the shoppers.”
Appetizers were not all that was offered. If the shopper spent over $75, he or she also received a complimentary gift- a Tri-Delta T-shirt.
The store opened at 11 a.m. (one hour early), and the event ended at 1 p.m. This year was the second year for “Shop for a Cause,” and the women are expecting to raise about $7,000 for their national philanthropy.
Each year, the women from Tri-Delta plan several events to raise funds for St. Jude’s Hospital. Their next event will be “Delta Diner” on Oct. 19, a fundraiser in collaboration with IHOP.
