Women’s Tennis
SMU sophomore Natalia Bubien was named the C-USA Tennis Player of the Week after leading the No. 43 women’s tennis team to two victories this weekend. Bubien won all four of her matches as the Mustangs defeated both No. 70 Troy and No. 71 Louisville in Kentucky, making SMU 3-0 for the season. She played No. 1 singles and paired with freshman Claire Reitsch to play No. 1 doubles as well. In the fall, Bubien was the first Mustang since 2000 to participate in the pre-qualifying rounds of the Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championships. Bubien will be back in action Feb. 17 when the Mustangs host Harvard.
Women’s Track and Field
Mustang senior Gaelle Niare earned the C-USA Female Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week honor after her performance at the first meet of the season. Niare posted an NCAA automatic qualifying mark with her high jump of 6’0.5″ at the J.D. Martin Invitational in Norman, Okla., on Saturday. The Montrveil, France, native is the reigning Conference USA indoor and outdoor champion in the high jump. The SMU women’s track and field team returns to competition Apr. 21 in Ft. Worth, Texas, at the TCU Invitational.
