Applications for Student Body elections are due today at 5 p.m.
Students interested in running for student body president, vice president, secretary, Senate, Student Media Board of Directors, or Student Center Governing Board can apply at www.smu.edu/studentsenate.
Candidates are required to have at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA and be enrolled full-time or enrolled in a co-op program, or with minimum hours to graduate.
Candidates also must be in good judicial standing with the university and are only eligible to run for seats of the school in which they are enrolled at the time of the election.
Student Senate is a yearlong commitment, and candidates must be able to attend senate meetings all year.
Senate meets weekly during the on Tuesdays at 3:30 p.m. in the forum of Hughes-Trigg Student Center.
Student Senate manages more than $2 million for student organizations and for student scholarships.
Senate also deals with issues such as the George W. Bush Presidential Library debate, new majors and minors, safety on campus and campus food and housing.
